What You Should Do if Injured at Work

March 30, 2021 by Robbins Law, P.C.

No matter what type of job you have, there is always a risk of being injured or falling ill. If you are injured on the job in Georgia, you should file a workers’ compensation claim immediately so that you can pay for your treatment while you’re recovering. Attorney Laurie S. Robbins can help you file your claim in an accurate and timely manner.

In order to receive fair compensation, you should follow the steps outlined by both your state and your employer regarding workers’ compensation. In general, it is always best to:

  • Report the Injury to Your Supervisor: As soon as you are injured, or the moment you discover a work-related illness, tell your supervisor. They will instruct you to fill out a work injury report, which details the type of injury you sustained, when you were injured, and how the injury occurred.
  • Visit a Physician Approved by Your Employer: To ensure that your medical expenses for treatment are covered, make sure you visit a physician approved by your employer’s workers’ compensation plan. Contact your employer if you have any questions about seeing an approved physician. You should also include a copy of your medical records with your claim.
  • File a Claim With Georgia’s Board of Workers’ Compensation: If possible, file a WC-14 form with the Board of Workers’ Compensation and an additional copy with your employer. This is in addition to the work injury report you fill out for your employer when you are injured.

To prevent claim denials, it’s best to hire an experienced workers’ compensation attorney to manage your claim. Ms. Robbins is familiar with Georgia’s workers’ compensation laws and can help you file accurate paperwork. She can also handle any appeals if your claim is denied.
