Common Workplace Injuries in Atlanta

May 29, 2010 by Robbins Law, P.C.

There are some occupations that seem inherently dangerous. Construction and manufacturing are two types of industries that you would expect would have a higher incidence of work related injuries. While the hazards might be more prominent in those environments every type and location of work has its own hazards and injury rates. Many of the most common workplace injuries can happen anywhere in any industry, company and location. Statistically, workplace injuries happen in Atlanta with the same frequency as in other places.
The most common workplace injuries across industries include:

  • Overexertion from activities such as pulling, pushing, lifting and carrying (note: this is the number one type of workplace injury)
  • Trips, slips and falls, and Falls from an elevated area
  • Being struck by an object (including falling objects)
  • Repetitive motion (carpal tunnel, etc.)
  • Violent acts

Government regulations and insurance requirements are two factors that impact business’ emphasis on safety. By providing adequate training on safety related topics and monitoring work processes to ensure that safety procedures are observed, companies work to reduce the number of injuries. Employees in all types of industries and occupations can work to reduce injuries by making sure that they comply with policies and procedures that are designed to keep them safe in the performance of their job.

Even if your employer does everything possible to prevent them, accidents will happen. You hope that they don’t happen to you but if you are involved in a work related accident you need help to make sure that you are taken care of.
